Ouray Ice Park
Ouray, CO
Ouray supports a thriving winter economy, and many travel from all over the world to climb the man made and natural frozen waterfalls. The Ice Park had been using water from the City’s water tower. As winters have become shorter and not as cold in recent years, it’s been vital that the water runs on the coldest nights to lay down enough ice to support the park. On said nights, water usage had conflicted with other water interests and as a result, the Ice Park closed in February of 2017. Usually the park is open until the end of March. This lost a month and a half of city-wide business revenue.
Hoping to avoid this situation for 2018 and beyond, Summit Sealants worked with the Ouray Ice Park Board of Directors to come up with some alternative water sources. The obvious solution seemed to be to repair the dam on the reservoir which holds thousands of gallons of water and pipe that into the water system. The work was completed in the fall of 2018 and it has successfully helped the park to thrive.
